Publishing a book isn't only about writing a book. There's a bit more that goes into it, like having a copy-editor to review and fine-tune the narrative and an illustrator or graphic artist to design your illustrations and book layout. There are many cost effective resources online but if you can't do it yourself, find out what you will need, how much it will cost and who can can help get it done.
Set your goals and timelines for achieving them.
Your goals are the primary outcomes you hope to achieve. When setting them, keep your budget in mind. Consider things like production costs, royalties, pricing and promotion. Is your goal to achieve a certain amount of profit within a particular period? Are you aiming for a certain level of social media engagement? What about extending your reach and distribution channels? What do you hope to achieve?
Create a targeted strategy based on your goals.
A strategy is the approach you take to achieve a goal. But remember, what works for one may not be ideal for all. So really think about your audience and your goals rather than simply doing what others do. Come up with a plan that fits well with your brand and what you hope to achieve.
Set up a system to monitor your progress.
Many people tend to omit this step but it really is quite important. How else would you know if you were truly successful and more importantly, how else would you know if your strategy is working for you? It could be as easy as setting a spreadsheet to track your progress on a weekly, monthly or annual basis.
